From the research literature, there was found various teaching methods which the teacher can apply when teaching Finnish as a second language. Key elements of the most important researches, in particular to support the speech of the students, were small group activities, peer support and spontaneous interaction situations. In most studies, teaching functionality and interaction were important. Other well-functioning methods, such as the use of pupils' own mother language in teaching, were considered workable. The aim behind these teaching methods was to enrich the vocabulary of the students and thus to improve the fluency of speaking. The research results can be directly applied to practical teaching work.
