Objectives. In the literature review organizational learning from errors was examinated. The aim of the review was to describe the impact of error management on learning from errors in organizations based on previous studies. The purpose of the literature review was to describe how error management contributes learning from errors in organizations. Errors occur in all organizations, so it is important to understand what kind of error management is developing and promotes learning. While learning and development are a prerequisite for successful organizations, it is crucial to understand how errors are translated into success. Learning from errors is one of the research topics related to organizational learning that has been of interest to researchers for several decades. Earlier studies have shown that learning from errors is challenging but can be influenced in many ways. Methods. The literature review was carried out as an integral literary review. The research material was systematically compiled from four different databases. The material consisted of 13 research articles dealing with learning from errors across different industries in 2007–2017. The study was analyzed by adapting inductive content analysis. Results and conclusions. Error management, which enhanced learning, identified, reported and analyzed errors, developed and put new procedures in test. In addition to these very tangible factors, the management of errors had to take into account the sociocultural factors associated with the organization and the work community that affected learning from errors. Sociocultural factors, especially the organizational culture, significantly affected learning from errors. In order to truly learn from errors, resources are needed, such as time, opportunities for the provision of assistance between employees, and internal structures that help skills learned from errors to be spread. The organization must address to its staff that the learning and the development of operations are valued. Organizational culture, where errors are identified, reported and analyzed, is formed through the exemplary activity and support of the supervisor and colleagues. Organizational culture must be developed deliberately.
