The increase in knowledge, continuous changes, and the complexity of the world all affect upbringing and education. In autumn 2016 a new curriculum of comprehensive school came into effect that obligated schools to promote integrated learning and multidisciplinarity by arranging multidisciplinary learning modules. The objectives of this study are to find out what is meant by multidisciplinary modules, and what kind of position do they gain on the grounds of the comprehensive school curriculum. The study was conducted as a literature review that versatilely utilized previous research, articles, and other publications related to the studies. Fairly little previous research on the topic exists. Multidisciplinary learning modules are annual thematic entities that connect subjects. Multidisciplinary modules enable students to understand the connections between learned skills and knowledge, which may enable them to understand the meaning of knowledge in their everyday lives. Student participation is an integral part of multidisciplinary modules as it supports the development of students’ curiosity and motivation. When planning multidisciplinary modules, one should take into consideration not only the co-ordination of different subjects, but also the collaboration with different players.
