    Goals: The point of the study was to clarify the notions of childhood educators about including pedagogics in to basic care situations in day care centers. Previous studies about combining basic care and pedagogics don't really exist, which caused research problems while searching for background theories. In my thesis I have introduced the whole of care, upbringing and education that has been a big topic of discussion in Finland. In the thesis I establish the concepts of basic care, care and pedagogics. I have also delved deeper in to different types of pedagogics that are present in basic care. In the research teachers talk about how they combine education and upbringing. Methods: The material for this research has been collected using qualitative means with an e-form. Four childhood educators from a day care center in Helsinki that worked with children aged 2 to 5 answered the e-form.The material has been analyzed using themative means. In order to get answers for my questions, I analyzed the material using theories as a basis which defined the pedagogics. Results and conclusions: All the teachers answered that they combined pedagogics in to basic care situations. However, only half of them presented clear methodical means about combining care, upbringing and education. In childhood education most of the day can be spent in basic care situations but still the research about basic care is almost non-existent. This study is just the tip of the iceberg of different possibilities of basic care. Basic care should enjoy more respect and research in childhood education.
