The purpose of the bachelor’s thesis is to study newly qualified kindergarten teacher’s expectations on occupation and how they experienced the work. The purpose of this research was to find out what expectations kindergarten teachers have, how these expectations have been fulfilled, what kind of support did kindergarten teachers get in the beginning of their career and how they think the education gave skills for the occupation. The theoretical background focuses on what it is like to go from being a student to working life and, also what it means to be a kindergarten teacher. Previous research will be presented of kindergarten teachers working experiences and challenges faced in the beginning. Research method used was a qualitative interview with influences from hermeneutics. Three newly qualified kindergarten teachers with less than two years work experience were interviewed for the research. The results of this research show that the kindergarten teachers had different experiences of the first years working. The expectations were high and everyone looked forward to start working. The expectations were partly met and there where things that were different than thought for example how kindergarten teachers are viewed, the roll of kindergarten teacher and how hard it is to work in a group with 0–3– year– old children. Two out of three kindergarten teachers considered that they got support in working and one kindergarten teacher experienced a lack of support. The kindergarten teachers thought that the education had given skills for the job, even if they thought some things were missing from the education.
