There has been observed a link between schizophrenia, schizotypy and supernatural beliefs, and this link has been studied a lot. However, previous studies have treated supernatural beliefs and other belief categories that resemble it as qualitatively different groups, even though this approach has a questionable basis. In this study, therefore, these groups have been combined into a single, general class of beliefs. The study has three hypotheses; firstly that people who have more supernatural beliefs also have more schizotypal traits (and vice versa), secondly that schizotypal traits related to cognitive processes specifically are related to a higher amount of supernatural beliefs, and thirdly that people who hold strong supernatural beliefs assume that others consider them strange or atypical. The results support the first and second hypothesis, but are less clear regarding the third hypothesis.
