In this Bachelor`s thesis, I present different classroom management methods that teachers use to prevent discipline problems. The research method was a literature review where I got to know the most central literature of this field and subject. I defined the most important con-cepts in my work, such as classroom management and discipline problems. My interest in this thesis was also to find out the reasons behind the discipline problems. Purpose of this Bachelor`s thesis was to increase my professional skills and theoretical knowledge on this is-sue. The literature showed that the teaching style has become more children-centered. Many re-searchers describe that an ideal working environment is a relative and subjective concept that everyone defines based on their own context. It’s also noteworthy that pupils’ and teach-ers’ views of discipline problems may differ from one another. There are a lot of possible reasons behind discipline problems: pupils, teachers, pupils' socio-economic status, structur-al issues within the school, and society. Often, the problems arise from the complex combi-nation of these factors. Many Finnish and international authors and researchers have developed different classroom management methods to prevent discipline problems. Many scholars have noted that it is easier and more desirable to prevent discipline problems in advance than to intervene after-wards. On the basis of the literature, I divided the classroom management methods for pre-venting discipline problems into four categories: the teacher's authority position, common rules and objectives, an encouraging and safe atmosphere, and high-quality teaching. My Bachelor's thesis is a good theoretical basis for my Master's thesis. I could continue by researching what kind of discipline problems teachers encounter in their work and how they prevent and face discipline problems. Another research idea would be to explore this issue from the pupil’s perspective.
