    Purpose of this study is to investigate how the economic downturn affected the attractiveness of investing in housing and mortgage markets in the debate in 2008. At that time, Finland's economy declined sharply and quickly surprising also forecasting experts. Economists' opinions lacked the consistency and accuracy. Forecasts also could change significantly in the short term. In the recession housing investment communications is conservative and well-formatted. Investors like to believe in other investors’ opinions and ideas even though their background should not always be verified. Investors want to believe in experts’ statistics even though there are doubts towards them. On the other hand investors want to believe in the profitability of investing in housing and economic returns although experts are able to prove otherwise. The study was conducted qualitative case study which is analyzed in Greimas' actantial model. The material consisted of 14 articles published in Helsingin Sanomat and 13 writings in Taloussanomat Internet pages. Meanings of the messages were analyzed semiotically defining roles for actants. In the story object of the investor subject is financial return from housing. Senders include experts creating statistics and investment advisers. All the optimal investment decision affecting actants are decined in the end of the study.
