The primary purpose of this thesis is to present the perceptions of the Ga women of (Bukom and Chorkor) in Greater Accra, Ghana, on domestic violence. Also, the incidences of domestic violence among these women are explored. The data was gathered through in-depth interviews with 20 participants, and the study is solely qualitative. The study was guided by sociological theories like feminist perspectives, the impact of culture and social status on domestic violence, patriarchy and many more. These theories are used to help understand domestic violence categorizing them by the respective perception of participants and the circumstance under which these incidences occur. What this thesis aims to achieve will not be possible if references are not made to specific sociological theories. Majority of the participants had been victims of domestic violence, and their perception towards it varied from individual to individual. The main conclusion summed up to the notion that the women of Bukom and Chorkor continue to fall victims to domestic violence in their communities. The reasons the women fail to report incidences of abuse are because they were scared it will ruin their relationship with their partners. Though a law has been passed to stop domestic violence and a unit (DOVVSU) has been set up by the government of Ghana to handle domestic violence issues, there is still more to be done in that area. This thesis demonstrates that setting up a temporary refuge home for domestic violence victims in all regions in Ghana would go a long way to help victims of domestic violence recover quickly and to use their time spent in the refuge homes to think of how to move on in life.
