The goal of this thesis was to establish a background for evaluation and the development of evaluation, to analyze the prognostic value of primary school grades in vocational school, and to compare results with earlier studies. Vocational school success was defined by the grades in communal studies in mathematics, sciences and communication. Analyzes are based on material gathered by Centre for Educational Assessment during 2011- 2017. The thesis makes use of primary school grades, vocational school grades, and the results from OPIOPI-study. The sample size used was n=1309/639. Analyzes performed with multivariate methods (eg. correlation). Results are in line with the Finnish study, but far from the result of the Swedish study. Similarly to earlier studies the prognostic value of grades is greater than of standardized testing.
