    Objectives. The purpose of the study is to resolve shop steward educations problems and ponder proposed solutions. The study scrutinizes on the current state of the shop steward education and what could be improved in relation to shop steward changed working environment and to the educations feedback. Research problems are to re-solve how to improve the shop steward education from the trade unions point of view and in the other hand also from the participants point of view. The other research objective is to find out what know-how demands the shop stewards describe to have in their work. Methods. In question is a theory bound approach to the research material, in which the mate-rials analysis isn't directly based on theory, but the connections to it are derivable. The re-search material is based on feedback from the shop steward education (N=53), the instruc-tors letter to the trade union, learning diaries and written reports (9 s.), recorded and tran-scribed negotiation situation (8,5pages) and e-mails of conflict situations (6 pcs). In this study the research material is mainly observed in the light of Engenström's expansive learn-ings circle model and Pihlaja's triangle model which describes the need for change. Results and conclusions. The study results show that in order to function properly in his/her job, the shop steward needs and appreciates the education. In the other hand qualitatively changed working life also demands the trade union to renew and alter the shop steward edu-cations forms and execution models. Shop steward educations cannot be just theory based, but shop stewards hope to get a more functional approach to the education. Trade unions education is therefore more appreciated than higher level education. In the future the educa-tion has to be developed so that the learning readiness and needs of the shop stewards are more taken into account and the education is also improved based on their course-evaluations and suggestions. In the future the study of shop steward educations impact is needed.
