The study consisted of three phases. The first phase was to find out students’ attitudes towards crafts. Other topics included the working environment in technical work, working safety and available resources in crafts. The research focused on teaching – studying – learning -process of craft. Research topics based on researches of Kansanen & Meri (1999), Meri (2014), Hilmola & Autio (2017) and contents of Finnish national curricula (2004 & 2014). The starting point of the study was a student survey, which was made in 2008-09. The aim of the study was to link low skills to motivation in crafts. Main focus of the second sub-study (2017) was a qualitative teacher interview, which was analyzed by the means of content analysis method. The questions and themes of the interview were based on quantitative student inquiry that mapped students’ knowledge, skills, and attitudes toward the learning process of technical work. The third sub-study (2020) focused on elucidating the time use of craft teachers. These three phases were combined into a case study on craft education. The chosen research strategy required both quantitative and qualitative analysis. The indicators produced by the statistical analyzes were used to draw conclusions about students’ views. The content analysis of the teacher material required time for transcribing and classification. Initially, there were about 150 categories, but the number of categories decreased during the analyzes progressed. As a result of research, it became clear that the students' weak commitment and poor motivation were clearly visible in competence and knowledge development. The working environment was mainly functional. Both the student inquiry and teacher interviews pointed that working safety was in good condition. According to the survey, students seemed relatively satisfied with craft with the resources and options they have. The teachers felt that it was challenging to follow the curriculum with resources they can afford.
