Children's hobbies affect families' everyday life structure and time schedules. According to recent studies the hobby culture has changed in Finland within last decades. Children are actively taking part in different kinds of hobbies. At the same time public discussion about families' everyday life is focused on the challenges of consolidating work and family. One of the major challenges is time and its' sufficiency. Families report they experience lack of time in their everyday life. The aim of this study was to research how children's hobbies influence the everyday life. The study is based on home economics science which emphasizes the interactional and experimental features of parenting/nurturing and functioning in everyday life. The study was a qualitative case study with ethnographical scientific approach. The family studied has six family members. Both parents are working full time. All children participate supervised hobby activity weekly. The data was collected by observing family's everyday life and by interviewing all family members in December 2016. The collected data was analyzed by using Grounded Theory methodology. The main finding in the study was that hobbies have mainly positive effects on the everyday life of the family studied. According to all family members the hobbies brought positive content to children's life. Time schedules of children's hobbies affected everyday life structure but also brought challenges. Hobby culture was criticized for being binding, goal-directed or adult focused in some cases. The emerged phenomenon of the study was time – its' sufficiency or the lack of it. All family members were satisfied with everyday life as a result of the solution family had come to for time management. The parents' weekly turns in taking care of household duties were a solution for everyday life management which also enabled leisure activities during busy everyday life. The most significant result of the study involves the formula for reorganizing everyday life functions. This arrangement can be seen as a reflection of rebirth or transformation in family culture.

Goals. The purpose of this study was to gain information on adult education teachers' perceptions of the everyday life of the adult students. The goal was to find out what kind of information the teachers get of the students' everyday life and how it affects their work. The earlier studies have proved the students' every day life often to be busy. Combining work, studies and family life is demanding. Studying is a major part of adult student's everyday life. This study is based on home-economics science and it's everyday life theory. It also examines adult's studies through previous studies and life-span developmental psychology. The teacher's role is viewed from philosophical viewpoint and the theory of teacher's areas of responsibility. The interaction between teacher and student is examined through the theory of the atmosphere of caring. This study will show how the teachers take the everyday life of the students' into consideration in the teaching and the possible needs to develop the practices. Methods. The data of this study is a part of the Tekes-funded Kumous-project's material. It consists of interviews of people working for Itä-Uudenmaan koulutuskuntayhtymä, which offers adult education in the area. Interviews of 12 teachers were chosen for the study and the emphasis was on the fourth theme of the interview, where the everyday life of the student was discussed. Data was analyzed qualitatively using theory sensitive content analysis. Narrative analysis was used with the small stories that the interviewees spontaneously told about the everyday life of the students. Results and conclusions. The teachers gain information about the everyday life of the student abundantly most of the time. The information is gained in official and free interaction with the students. The teachers consider the information to be important for their work, especially for supporting the student in their studies. The everyday life information is gained in the existential area of the teachers' responsibilities and comes up in the atmosphere of caring. That's when the teachers also help the student to solve problems of the everyday life. A teacher focusing to a specialist role is not taking part in students' everyday life. Based on the results it can be emphasized that taking the everyday life of the student into consideration is an essential part of successful studies. Teacher's ability to receive information of the students' everyday life is an essential part of his/her expertise when problems of everyday life form an obstacle for student's ability to study.

Parents and their children spend less time together than before. The everyday life of families with children is perceived as busy, and children spend even more time in day care. Home and family create the child's most important growth environment and interactive atmosphere has a significant connection to the child's safe growth and wellbeing. The atmosphere of caring refers to the ideal interactive atmosphere of a family with children, where the educational significance of being together is recognized. This study examines how the qualities of the atmosphere of caring and the qualities of parents' educational awareness are seen through the interaction of everyday life’s common activities of small children and their parents. The research method of this study is qualitive. Research data was collected using a diary method and a semi-structured interview. The participants consisted of five families, all of which had a mother, a father and two children, who were under school age. Families kept a diary for a week, of what they did together in their everyday life. The diaries were used as a support of the reflection in the interviews. Only parents were interviewed for the study. The data was analyzed by qualitive content analysis. According to the result of this study, during interaction of common activity, qualities of the atmosphere of caring appeared, which increased the positiveness of the emotional climate. These qualities were lack of urgency, the supporting of the cooperation between children, genuine presence, and consideration of participation. The qualities which increased the positiveness of the emotional climate were also seen as part of the educational awareness of the parents, which was found to embody different goals related to education. The goals were educational child orientation, children’s future everyday management skills, the reconciling of hobbies, work, and family life. A precondition for the goals is awareness of the educational significance of unhurried time with children, which is also a precondition for the realization of the atmosphere of caring. Therefore, unhurried time together with children, plays an important role in family’s everyday life’s interaction.
