Cervical cancer is the 19th most common cancer amongst women in Finland. In our country there are around 150 new diagnoses yearly and 50 deaths due to cervical cancer (1). The Human Papilloma Virus is the most central and a necessary factor in the development of cervical cancer (2). HPV causes histologic changes in the cervix that are detectable in cervical cancer screening conducted with cytological smears ("Pap-smears") (2). A key factor in the efficacy of cervical cancer screening, as in any screening, is the coverage and attendance rate of the screening. In this study, we are investigating Finnish women's attitudes and knowledge regarding the subject in order to better target non-attendee groups.
