    The conventional drugs administration causes severe side effects caused by the interactions with heathy cells or body components The development of drug delivery systems (DDS) aims to overcome side effects and improve target-ability to the site of actions. Lignin is a renewably-resourced natural biopolymer obtained as a by-product in wood processing. Recently, lignin has been extensively investigated due to its wide availability, cost-effective preparation, nanoscale size, biocompatibility, and biodegradability, suggesting the suitability in DDS applications. Melanoma is an aggressive cancer originated from the pigmented cells called melanocytes, which produce pigments: eumelanin and pheomelanin. High content of pheomelanin and increased pheomelanin to eumelanin ratio is correlated with higher possibility of melanoma development. About 75% of patients with melanoma arising from a genetic mutation have a mutation in codon 600 of exon 15 of the B-RAF gene (V600E), which enhances the activity of MAPK/ERK signaling pathway responsible for the cell proliferation. Vemurafenib is a B-RAF inhibitor disrupts this pathway and leads to the programmed cell death. In this study, vemurafenib-loaded lignin nanoparticles (v-LNPs) were developed and characterized. In vivo behavior was investigated in both immune and melanoma cell lines.
