This thesis discusses the internal communication procedures in a Finnish construction company YIT. The aim was to categorise employees according to their positions in the company as well as according to their internal communication wants, needs and capabilities. Similarities and differences, as well as weaknesses and strengths in these segments of employees were found, and solutions offered accordingly. Due to the unique nature of construction industry, main literature includes research about internal communication in this specific sector. Unlike many of the sources quoted, this thesis does not merely discuss the worksite employees’ conditions, but also the office employees and the communication gap between these two distinct groups. Both qualitative and quantitative data is provided regarding the employee’s communication conditions. The main conclusions state that both corporate communication as well as individual communicators are the engineers of fluent and efficient internal communication. Suggestions for improving internal communication through encouragement, training and reminding are offered. In addition, a few concrete examples relating specifically to the company in question are discussed.
