In thesis at hand, there´s three cases of automobility which have affected the ways electric vehicle technology has progressed. The birth of automobility and modern car industry was affected by multiple things and electric vehicle had a role in it. The combustion engine came to be the dominating technology. The situation remained long unchanged, until the Opec Oil Embargo of 1973 and battery innovation by Ford of 1966, among other things, changed the era. Thirdly technological forcing was introduced in the 1990s. The goal of the research is to understand where non-fossil energy systems have gained momentum and progressed. Non-determinist ways of understanding history are displayed. The material has been gathered from newspaper articles, popular science literature and the research of electrochemistry. Thus, the research is using history research methods. The goal has not been to make linear or determinist picture of historical events, because very random social issues shape the using of technology. Social constructivist issues displayed are the gender in private car use, whereas broader issues are the vested interests of car and oil industry. At the dawn of new electro-chemical era, we still need new social ways in understanding mobility.
