Bärlund, André (2019)Aims. Earlier research has shown that recruiters tend to often use an intuitive and subjective approach in employee selection. Research also show that rational and objective tests are the best method for successful recruitment, and that an intuitive approach in employee selection is not sustainable. The aim of this study is to answer the question if intuition is a legitimate tool for employee selection. Methods. As a method, I chose to use a limited systematic literature review together with a thematic method of analysis. The search for articles was done in the databases Helka and Google Scholar, with the help of search terms such as recruitment, employee selection and intuition. Manual search was also done by searching through the reference lists of the articles. Results and conclusions. The result of the study does not give a clear answer to the question if intuition is a legitimate tool for employee selection. Research done within recruitment suggest that intuition should be avoided as much as possible during employee selection, while research done within general organizational context suggest that intuition is a valuable supporting tool for decision making.
