The purpose of this study is to find out what seventh-grade boys think are essential skills in everyday management. The purpose is to find the essential skills that boys perceive and their perceptions of why they think those skills are relevant. The theoretical framework of this research is based on Liisa Haverinen’s (1996) everyday life management model and the Perusopetuksen opetussuunnitelman perusteet 2014. The research was carried out with qualitative research methods. The material of the thesis consisted of five (5) focused interviews that were conducted in the context of Home Economics lessons in Northern Ostrobothnia. The boys connected with the study were enrolled in compulsory comprehensive school education in seventh grade. The interviews were recorded, transcribed, and then analyzed utilizing theory-based content analysis. Liisa Haverinen’s (1996) everyday life management model and the Perusopetuksen opetussuunnitelman perusteet 2014 were used to interpret the research results. In the study, the everyday life management skills mentioned by the boys formed eight different thematic categories, which, according to Haverinen’s (1996) everyday life management model, were divided into two dimensions of poiesis and praxis. The main categories in the data were food and nutrition skills, social skills and cleaning and clothing care. The smaller categories were economy and consumer skills, handicrafts, hobbies, technology skills and information management skills. The boys always mentioned severals skills that they thought to be important in their everyday life.
