    The purpose of research was to find out how discretion come true and what kind of factors affect families of Espoo child care choices. Early childhood education system will give you a chance to choose between public and private day care and also between home care. Earlier researchers have pointed out that people with high-education and high-income have more freedom to choose than people with lower incomes and lower education. The research will find out does parent’s socioeconomic status affect to their choices. It also tells us does discretion come true equally and does every parent have enough information to make the choice. The research were made with a quantitative methods. The research was exploratory and it looked for explanation how people choose between different kind of day care services. All material were collected together with a questionnaire. The survey respondents were randomly chosen families with under 7-year-old children. 69 people answered to the study. The researcher’s method of analysis was used a frequency tabulation and a cross tabulation. Results of research have showed us that a socioeconomic status do not have connection with a day care service choices in Espoo. The factors which affected were location of day care place and also a size of group. The freedom of choice will not come true without knowledge. You have to have enough information to make decisions about day care choices. Those who had possibility to get enough information experienced that they had chance to choose. Also the freedom to choose between a private and a public day care or a home care come true better than freedom to choose how your child will be take care of
