The Finnish national core curriculum that was put into effect in 2016 urges schools to participate in active collaboration with parties outside of schools. The purpose of this study was to find out ways in which schools and cultural institutions collaborate, by reviewing research done on the subject within the last eight years. Another goal was to find out what factors contribute to a successful partnership according to the studies used. This study was carried out as a systematic review. After collecting and selecting material on the subject, the material for this study was finalized as five studies, each of which presents one or more case studies of collaboration between schools and cultural institutions. The studies were published between 2009 and 2016, and concern institutions and schools in the United States and Australia. The review showed that cooperation between cultural institutions and schools had positive results for all parties involved. There were several factors that contribute to a successful partnership, and the studies were mostly in agreement over what they were. The most important factors were careful planning and mutual communication. Based on the studies, it seems that collaborations with appropriate and willing cultural institutions are a realistic prospect for regular schools.
