In this research im interested about metropolis and the mental life it creates. I am trying to find out if there are any differences in mentalites between people who have lived their whole life in Helsinki and those who have just moved to Helsinki. I am also interested about the differences between men and women. In his book metropolis and the mental life Georg Simmel creates a theory where he claims that the city produces conditions of behavioural unfathomable to those in the city, and has created 4 mentaltypes These types are called intellectuality, blase attitude, reservenation and individua-lity. Along with these types I am also interested about Pierre Bourdieu’s cultural capital- theory, whitch I am examining by the book called Suomalainen maku. My research querys are Is there any differences between mentalitets depending if a person has lived his/hers whole life or most of his/hers life in Helsinki, moved to Helsinki years ago or mo-ved to Helsinki less than two (2) years ago. The data in this study was gathered through qantitative e-form. Querys where took from Antti Takalo’s master’s thesis. 252 People responded to this survey, and the data was analyzed by using SPSS- program. One way Anova- test did not found any sigfinicant differences differences between genders, but found one significant difference between residental groups and reservenation (Sig. 0,034). I feel fellowship to my neighborhood’s people- query got 2,281 (Mo 2, N32) mean from people who have lived less than two years in Helsinki, and 3,117 (Mo 3, N153) mean from people who have lived most of their lives in Helsinki. The mean difference was 0,836. However group who have moved to Helsinki several years ago got the highest mean 3,119 (Mo 4, N67). There-fore it is logical to say that there are no significant differences between the years spent Helsin-ki. This research did not found any significant differences between the groups, and cannot genera-lisate the one found significante. Zerohypothesis remains valid.
