(2017)Purposes. The purpose of the study was to examine the immigrant parents' thoughts and experiences of cooperation with day-care centers. In the theory, I compared the 2005 and 2016 national early childhood education plans. It is also scrutinised of the power distribution between the day-care educators and the parents. In the theory framework are presented Holliday's (2011) concepts of othering and those are used also in the study itself. Methods. The study is a meta study, which was carried out as an integrative literature review. Research material consisted of three Master theses and a doctoral thesis. The analysis and the synthesis of the research were implemented mainly with Atlas.ti program. The research questions were: 1. How the immigrant parents have experienced the cooperation with day-care centers? and 2. What kind of cooperation immigrant parents wish to have with day-care centers? Results and conclusions. Based on this research, the central problems of cooperation relate to the language skills of immigrants. In addition to the language problems, also cultural differences were challenging the co-operation. Immigrants´ conception of the good and adequate cooperation may differ significantly from what is expected from kindergarten educators. Parents' experiences of cooperation with day-care center educators differed greatly, which suggests that in different kindergartens the cooperation with immigrant parents is realized with the differing standards. Language difficulties reduce essentially the daily exchange of information. The exchange of information is thus channelled mainly to annually kept discussions, using an interpreter, and where parents have primarily the role of the listener. Also, the mutually applied stereotypical perceptions of the other challenged mutual understanding. For the reasons above, immigrant parents wished to have access to communication resources, which are targeted especially for them; possibility to approach assistants, who would consider their special needs within specific society. If day-care centers want to improve the quality of cooperation with immigrant parents, it is justified to develop new operational concepts, in which asking assistance is made much easier for immigrant parents; and where the reciprocal relationships in the midst of immigrant parents are supported and encouraged.
