In recent years, talk about expertise has increased to include new and new occupations in the labor market transition. Since I worked many years with homeless people, I began to think about how the talk about the expertise is appropriate for the social work sector and how the expertise is practiced there. My main objective was to find out how the expertise is shown in the third sector social work with homeless people. From my own perspective, the public sector has structures and frameworks that guide new employees quite strictly how to implement their work, while the third sector has more free working environment where the employee's personal qualities can affect more to the content of the work. In 2002, Hakkarainen, Palonen and Paavola published an article about the mechanisms for creating expertise that, in my opinion, disregarded the personal and emotional capabilities of an employee to become an expert. However, I believe that these characteristics are emphasized in the social sector as an essential part when building up one´s expertise. The purpose of the research was to find out how Hakkarainen and his partners' (2002) three aspects of expertise; the acquisition view, the participation view and the knowledge-creation view are emphasized in the social work. The second purpose was to study what role the personal characteristics play when developing one´s expertise in the third sector. The material of my qualitative research was based on three professional thematic interviews in the social sector, which I implemented as half-structured interviews with using the phenomenographic approach. Prior to the interviews, I became acquainted with the theory of expertise and the literature of homelessness, as well as to the previous research specifically on social work expertise. According to the results, the information required for expertise in homelessness issues was mainly collected from the customer base and at the individual level. Social education was hoped to take better into account the people with whom the professionals will work after their graduation. The content of the work was essentially influenced by the personal skills of the employee, as they determined, not only the nature of the client work, but also the long-term work-life. More public and third sector co-operation was hoped for in order to utilize expertise.

The aim of this bachelor’s thesis was to see what kind of interventions has been developed for children and adolescents who go to school to prevent social exclusion. Current studies are familiar with the risk factors of social exclusion that can be seen already in the early age of children. These risk factors are discussed in this literature review. This study also deals with the ways that is possible to prevent social exclusion in school context. The concept of exclusion has many dimensions, which are discussed in this study. This study also intro-duces the ways that the Finnish curriculum aims to prevent social exclusion. This thesis is a discretionary literature review. It means that this study has features of both descriptive and systematic literature reviews. This study consists literature that is relevant for the research questions. The literature for this study is collected from the years 1994 to 2016 and the language of the literature was Finnish and English. The results showed that it is possible to prevent social exclusion in school context. Teachers and other adults working in schools are in an important role to notice if students are in a need of support. However results showed that there is a need for a national intervention model in Finland that would enable supporting children and adolescents in the most effective way. For the further study it would be interesting to develop that kind of intervention model.

Social exclusion of children and adolescents is a topical problem that has been increasingly noted by media and political conversation in Finland. Prevention of social exclusion is one of the most prioritized issues worldwide. Social exclusion is usually a result of accumulation of multiple different problems that have negative influence for persons wellbeing. Factors that can cause social exclusion are for example unemployment, mental health-problems, financial troubles or lack of education. It`s often difficult to return from social exclusion and extreme result can be convicting person for criminal behavior. There is also different risk-factors that can predict social exclusion of children and adolescents, for example behavioral problems, learning difficulties and negative circumstances in family. The aim for this study is to find different ways for teacher to prevent social exclusion of children. This study has been implemented as a literature review. Material of this review has been collected systematically from University of Helsinki library`s database. Material includes 4 different social exclusion of children and adolescents related peer-reviewed articles and one doctoral thesis. As result of this study I found multiple different ways for teacher to prevent social exclusion of children. Improving social relationships between children was mentioned in every article. Warm and confidential relationship between teacher and pupils was also seen important factor to decrease exclusion. Strengthening and encouraging of positive behavior, instead of forbidding and punishing, is seen more efficient way to improve school atmosphere and learning results. It was seen important that teacher truly respects and cares for pupils. Also including pupils to making rules and planning classes was mentioned in many of the articles.

The purpose on this study was to find out how to prevent children´s social exclusion in kindergarten, how to teach and lead children`s peer interaction and what kind of signs in child behaviour and action indicate a possible risk of social exclusion. Social exclusion is a complex concept and it is thought to be a long- term process where human drifts to the edge of society. For this reason, studying social exclusion for young children has been limited. There is a need for information how to support from the very beginning in order to increase wellbeing and to prevent social exclusion. In their earlier studies Laine and Neitola have found that social exclusion from peer group begins already in the early years. As a research material I used three kindergartens teachers’ interviews. The nature of this study is qualitative, and the method of collective data was semi-structured theme interviews. The material was analysed by content analysis. The result of the research showed that the learning and guiding social and emotional skills as well as children participation and equality in the kindergarten peer group are the best ways to prevent social exclusion. Learning peer interaction skills was seen as an important part of everyday life and it was clearly invested in each group. Peer interaction skills was especially supported in children`s play. Besides learning and expressing emotional skills was considered an important part of the peer interaction. The behaviour and action that indicates the risk of being excluded proved to be extreme behaviour. Especially the result showed that children who behaved aggressively or withdrawingly were in the risk group of exclusion. Weak social and emotional skills seem to be behind for children who are risk of exclusion.
