The first time when the support for the positive body image was raised into the basics of the curriculum was in the year of 2014. My personal interest and the curriculum were the main reasons to decide this specific research topic. The purpose of this research was to describe features of body image and its impact on students’ physical activity. Previously the connection between physical activity and body image has been studied. In my research the main aim was to find out how body image can have an impact on physical activity and how teachers can strengthen the students’ positive body image. The research was conducted by using descriptive literature review. The research literature was gathered from scientific researches and related literature. I found researches that descri-bed the relationship between body image and physical activity from the EBSCO database. More pragmatic solutions were found from the literature of the research topic. Literature used in this study, is published 2008 or later with a few exceptions. The material used in this study is from 2008 or later, with a few exceptions. With the results gained from the research I discovered how vast and timely the research sub-ject is. There was a big difference between girls’ and boys’ body image. The results proves the connection with the body image and the physical activity, but was not unambiguous. The articles studied in this research shows that a poor body image may reduce physical activity, or high physical activity may weaken the body image. Positive body image may also increase physical activity. The result of the research proves that the teacher can by his or her own example support the positive body image of students. The teacher’s share of the student’s body image is only a small part. The biggest influence on the development of the body image comes from the student’s parents and society.
