Tiivistelmä - Referat - Abstract The Study of Educational Activities in a Shopping Center Environment has been built on examining new environments and forms of youth work in the context of youth education. As youth work moves to premises managed by commercial actors, it is important to stick to the ethics and goals of youth work. The research question “What is mall youth work?” Was based on examining mall youth work at the level of goals, activities, and educational context. As a second question, I looked at the key experiences of young people in shopping center youth work. The hypothesis of the study was that youth work is a youth education activity and the educational nature of the activity is also reflected in the shopping center environment, as well as the youth experiences of youth work in the shopping center and its surrounding areas. The study was conducted by combining ethnographic observation and interviews. The interviews were based on a semi-structured interview, but in the methodological spirit of ethnography, the interviews were able to live and redirect research into new careers. The material consisted of a field diary and interview responses. The field diary acted as a mirror in analyzing the interviewees' responses. The interviews were transcribed and the young people's experiences were themed under the headlines. A key finding of the study is that shopping mall youth work is a new type of educational activity for young people, and that the young people's experience of youth work in and around the mall supports this observation. The themes of trust, security and interference emerged as key issues in young people's experiences. According to the study, the work in the mall and its surrounding areas is based on a dialogic educational interaction where long-term working, familiarity and shared reality build a confidential and secure educational relationship that also allows for interventions that may impair youth growth and development.
