    The purpose of this research was to examine the perception of child-centered and creative art education from the view of kindergarten teacher, as well as to gain information of the methods that are being used in their kindergarten units. The aim was to increase the knowledge of the children as artistic experiencer and doer. The used research method in this qualitative research was theme interview. Data for this research was collected by interviewing four kindergarten teachers from kindergartens in city of Helsinki. The selection criteria was that kindergarten units must have plan for early childhood education with mentions of it being child-oriented, importance of art education, self-expression or creativity. The data was analyzed in content analysis by classifying and grouping it to following three categories: child-orientation, creativity and methods. Kindergarten teachers felt that their role and responsibility as visual art educators is significant. Their actions reflected child-orientation and support for children's creativity. They planned and offered variety of different forms of visual art and made artistic experience of participation possible for children. They told that children in kindergarten can bring creative ideas and desires. In kindergarten teachers opinion was that the educator must be aware of the visual arts and its methods, even if educator itself is not so keen on arts. Kindergarten teachers encouraged children to creativity and generating products of their own vision. Self-expression was emphasized, and the combination of music, movement and the visual arts was considered a good way of doing visual arts and being child-centered as well as to encourage the participation of children. Kindergarten teachers emphasize high-quality materials and a wide range diverse materials of visual arts. However, high-quality materials are not always possibility because of too small budgets. According to the research in kindergarten teachers’ visual art education followed well noted points from academical literature which support overall growth of children. These points being following: support for overall growth of children, aesthetic approach and growth of creativity. Art education in kindergartens manifested as artistical expression and experiencing, experiencing surrounding aesthetically and culturally and safe use of media.
