(2019)This bachelor’s thesis is intended to study the importance of music education in early childhood according to previous studies. The attempt is to find definitions and benefits to early childhood music education from earlier studies. Narrative literature review was used as a research method in this bachelor’s thesis. The theoretical framework of the research consists of presenting the guiding documents of early childhood education and a small review of the literature on music education. The research material consists of previous studies and research articles. The research material was searched using the Google Scholar search engine and electronic databases of University of Helsinki. In the analysis of the research data, the research questions led the pick of the material when intend was to find relevant information to this bachelor’s thesis. Related literature, as well as research articles used in the research showed that music education supports linguistic development of children and helps building social skills, and cultural understanding. The research material showed that high-quality music education is versatile and takes into account the physical, mental and social skills associated with the age of children. High quality music education thus supports the child's development in many other areas of development. In addition, child-based teaching methods seem to yield positive results according to the research used in the thesis. In addition to the children's musical development, the child-oriented approach of teaching seems to support their self-esteem and sense of belonging to the group. It is possible to apply the literature review and its results in further studies, for example, when studying the importance of music education only from the perspective of a teacher or a child. It is also possible to use the thesis when studying only a specific area of music education or children's development.

(2023)Pula varhaiskasvatuksen opettajista on kärjistynyt ja noussut näkyväksi puheenaiheeksi 2010-luvulla. Tarpeeseen on vastattu lisäämällä varhaiskasvatuksen opettajien koulutusmääriä, mutta alan heikentyneen tilan takia uusien opettajien saamisesta ollaan huolissaan. Aloituspaikkamäärien lisäysten myötä ammatin veto- ja pitovoimaisuus ovat nostettu esille, sillä alalle hakeutuminen on ollut laskussa ja ammattiin sitoutuminen halutaan varmistaa. Tässä tutkielmassa tarkastelen varhaiskasvatuksen opettajan ammatin houkuttelevuuteen sekä työhön suuntautumiseen ja sitoutumiseen vaikuttavia tekijöitä. Keskityn sitoutumiseen vaikuttaviin tekijöihin erityisesti työuran alkuvaiheessa, jolloin tutkimusten mukaan on kriittisin vaihe kiinnittyä ammattiin tai poistua alalta. Veto- ja pitovoimaan vaikuttavien tekijöiden tunnistamisen avulla tutkielman tarkoituksena oli myös selvittää, miten ammatin veto- ja pitovoimaisuutta voidaan edistää. Tutkielma on luonteeltaan narratiivinen kirjallisuuskatsaus, jonka aineisto koostui dokumenteista, vertaisarvioiduista artikkeleista, tutkimuksista sekä tutkimuskirjallisuudesta. Aineiston hankintaa määritti implisiittinen valinta, joka mahdollisti veto- ja pitovoiman laaja-alaisen tarkastelun ilman tarkkoja ja rajaavia sisäänotto- ja poissulkukriteereitä. Käytin tutkielmassa aineistolähtöistä sisällönanalyysiä, jolloin tutkimuksen teoria ja tulokset rakentuivat aineiston pohjalta. Tuloksista ilmeni, että varhaiskasvatuksen opettajan ammatin veto- ja pitovoimaan vaikuttavat yhteneväiset tekijät. Merkittävimmiksi yhteisiksi vaikuttaviksi tekijöiksi nousivat työolot, palkkaus ja ammatin arvostus. Pitovoiman kannalta uusien opettajien vahvempi tukeminen ja ohjaus uran alkuvaiheessa näyttäytyi parempana sitoutumisena. Vetovoimaan tulosten mukaan vaikuttavat am-matista saatavat mielikuvat. Tutkielmani perusteella ammatin houkuttelevuuden koheneminen ja alalle suuntautuminen sekä sitoutuminen ovat yhteydessä toisiinsa. Poliittisella päätöksenteolla sekä uuden opettajan paremmalla tukemisella voidaan tämän katsauksen mukaan vahvistaa ammatin veto- ja pitovoimaa sekä siten vaikuttaa alan opettajapulaan.

(2018)Aims. Sexual education in early childhood aims to protect and support child’s sexual development (WHO, 2010). Even though the contents of sexual education can be found in the Finnish national early childhood education curricula, the specific term sexual education cannot be found in them. The aim for this study was to get familiar with studies concerning sexual education in early childhood in order to identify the arguments for sexual education and deduce the aims for sexual education. The intent of the researcher was to understand why sexual education is important and which goals should it try to achieve. Methods. This study was conducted as a narrative literature review with the goal of forming an image of the arguments and aims for the sexual education in early childhood. The study material consists of five peer-reviewed journal articles that addressed the sexual education of early childhood and were published between the years of 1997 and 2017. The material was analysed by thematic analysis which made it possible to bring forth meaningful themes in the light of the study questions. Results and conclusions. In the center of the arguments for sexual education was an understanding of the meaning of sexuality for humanity. According to the arguments, sexuality is already an integral part of human life in childhood and children should be given information about sexuality in their early years. The themes that concerned the aims for sexual education emphasized the aim of supporting children’s sexuality through a holistic approach. According to the results, sexual education should increase children’s knowledge of sexuality, teach them skills that they need in relationships and prepare them to take care of their own safety and wellbeing, while considering their age and developmental stage.
