The purpose of this thesis is to determine how attachment in relationships affects behavior and symptoms of ADHD. While creating a safe and established relationship is a crucial step in the healthy development of a child, this same relationship may also impact a child's life negatively if there is an insecure attachment between the child and their guardian. Studies have shown that safe attachment is the fundamental basis of trust between child and guardian. In my research I determine if there is a connection between the insecure attachment of a child to guardian and behavioral problems, as well as the role of this attachment on ADHD symptoms. Insecure attachment in a relationship is divided into two parts, disorganized attachment and avoidant attachment. Problem behavior is divided by either internalizing problem behavior or externalizing problem behavior. This study was conducted as an integrative literature review. The research material was based on precise criteria. Four peer-reviewed, international research articles from 2011-2016 were selected to assist this study. Based on the results of this study, we can conclude that insecure attachment is directly correlated to problem behavior and ADHD symptoms in children. Two studies were found to display a correlation between insecure attachment and problem behavior, along side this two more studies were found linking insecure attachment and ADHD. In most cases it was found that disorganised attachment was a main influencer in problem behavior, a similar relationship was also found between avoidant attachment and problem behavior.
