    Aims. The aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to find out how teacher notices pupils’ gender and how teacher’s gender awareness is shown in teacher’s action. Sex, gender and gender roles are all defined in this thesis. Kansanen’s (2000) theories about teacher’s pedagogical thinking and school’s environment have been used to define teacher’s action. The concepts of gender awareness and gender sensitivity are also defined in this thesis. Also the Finnish National Curriculum 2004 and 2014 and their relation to gender has been used as a theoretical framework in studying the gender awareness in teacher’s action. Methods. This bachelor’s thesis is a discretionary review which means that the researches for the review were selected on the ground that they would answer the research questions as well as possible. There were nine researches that were selected for this review, five of them are written in Finnish and four in English. This review mixed the features of systematic review and descriptive review so that the research material was summarized in table format but there were also descriptive analysis about the research problem. Results and conclusions. Teachers were mostly aware of their pupils’ gender. They felt that pupils’ gender affects how they are assessed and how teacher plans education. Teachers also felt that the awareness of pupils’ gender and gender roles are part of equality and they tried really hard to avoid emphasizing pupils’ gender roles.
