Teachers’ conceptions and approaches to teaching have been researched since early 80’s. The aim of the studies often is to explore which kind of teaching would give the deepest learning outcomes considering students’ indivualities as well. The conception consist of few frameworks like how we understand the knowledge, teaching and ourselves. The studies has often been interested in what kind of approach would lead deeper understanding. Dennis Fox (1983) defined teachers using his personal theories in his study with quite extraordinary metaphors. He was asking what do you do when you say you teach. The answers will be given concernig these idealistic personal theories. These analogies hardly has anything specific to give to the studies of education, but they might have something else. Albeit the conceptions of the theories has somehow become established among the researchers of teacherss approaches, the verbal side of the personal theories’ definition might be helpful being as ”operants” in the studies. This work of bachelor is about to explore if the conceptions of the personal theories of Fox could be used when defining teachers’ approaches.
