In this study I process preparatory education from the angle of integration. Both preparatory education and integration are topical issues in today’s worldwide and nationwide discussion. Integration to the Finnish society is one of the goals in preparatory education. I examine integrations meaning through research of history, rights and values, citizenship, otherness, social psychological adaption and empowerment. My goal is to understand in this literature survey, why preparatory education is being organized and what is its meaning for integration. According to my study education is the primary means of integrating one to new society. Immigrant who takes part of the society and maintains his or hers mother tongue and the culture of origin, is seen as the ideal of integration. Preparatory education has a great significance in integration, because it is immigrant pupil’s first contact to the Finnish society and school system. My study pointed out some problems, which appear in integration to school and society. A conflict of values, national nationality vision and produce of otherness prevent integration in preparatory education and also in basic education. We should be aware of these factors, even though we couldn’t erase them. Factors which promote integration in preparatory education were empowerment and activity. In preparatory education pupils start to take responsibility for themselves and move away from the passive role. Integration with peers is beneficial, when you take into account the potential social psychological problems. Study showed the challenge in integrations ideal, because it hopes that immigrant maintains his or hers culture inside the foreign culture. Preparatory educations meaning is contradictory, because it seeks to promote pupils own culture, but emphasizes most of all Finnish culture to make sure the transition to basic education. Preparatory educations is based on human rights and it aims to equality, but schools job is in addition to equality also produce differences between pupils.

Aims. The research was conducted aiming to understand the participation of ECEC (Early Childhood Education and Care) personnel through three dimensions: empowerment, work engagement and work commitment. The research problems were the theory of empowerment and it´s implications in ECEC, the theory of work commitment and it´s implications in ECEC and work engagement and it´s implications in ECEC. The research is based on The research the literature review was based on was the research of Venninen, T., Leinonen, J., Rautavaara-Hämäläinen, M., Purola, K. ”Lähes aina haettaessa sanotaan, että ihan ok päivä – mitä se lopulta tarkoittaa? Lasten vanhempien ja henkilökunnan osallisuus pääkaupunkiseudun päiväkodeissa.” (Almost Always as I Get my Child from Daycare They Say the Day Was OK - What Does It Really Mean? The Participation of Children´s Parents and ECEC personnel in the Daycare Centers of Metropolitan Area.) Research was conducted combining quantitative and material concerning the participation of parents and ECEC personnel. This research focuses on the participation of ECEC personnel. Methods. The methods used were literature review and content analysis. The method was abductive, the theory combined with the results creating new theory. In the teams participating in the original research by Venninen et al there were 25 000 children in daycare and the number of personnel was 5272. Results and Conclusions. The dimension of empowerment includes initiatives, as human agency evolves through social relations. Well-being at work and work identity are strongly related. Work commitment can be seen in tendency to want to influence in substitute arrangements and holidays. Employees wanted well-being at work and organizations and structures that support it. Work engagement was influenced negatively by not being able to influence one´s work description. This relates to tiredness and self-esteem. The mirror of work engage-ment is work resources versus work costs. ECEC personnel is dissatisfied in possibilities to further education and in-service training. In a larger framework of society, Freire (2005) developed a theory of dialogical action. Subjects meet in co-operation intending to change the world. Booth (2011) combines values and participation. Values follow actions and enable participation.

The purpose of the thesis is to find out what kind of empowerment, that is, the experiences of strengthening individual resources have been experienced by clients in mental health and substance abuse. Moreover, I am interested in what factors have contributed to the empowerment of the customer experience. The study was conducted at the Heinola City Health Center mental health and substance abuse work unit. The study interviewed five mental health and substance abuse clients in March 2017. The interview was conducted in accordance with the principles of semi-structured thematic interviewing. The method of analyzing the material was theoretical content analysis. The central background of the thesis is the theory of empowerment, especially the formal empowerment theory created by Juha Siitonen (1999). Based on the results of the research, it is possible to find experiences of empowerment for all customers who have experienced the resources and have promoted well-being. The research material shows that customer relationships have had a positive impact on customer rehabilitation and life. Factors promoting empowerment brought customers success in social situations as well as a friendly, supportive and encouraging atmosphere. In reflective discussions with the social and health care professional, customers describe that they have gained clarity in their life situation and a new way of life. Waking up the feeling of hopelessness in a previously hopeless situation was also felt to be important for starting the empowerment process. The results of my thesis support the previously obtained research data on the positive impact of the resources invested in mental health and substance abuse work on customers' lives. The clients of the mental health and substance abuse work unit clearly experience their strength and increase their well-being and their resources in health care mental health and substance abuse services. In previous studies on mental health and substance abuse clients, the importance of success and the atmosphere of rehabilitation has been emphasized. In addition to the above, the interviewees emphasized the importance of waking the feeling of hopelessness in launching the empowerment process that has not been given more attention in previous studies. However, the absence of a sense of hope may, in fact, prevent the start of the whole empowerment process, which makes sense of hopelessness for the empowerment of a noteworthy factor. This study focused on five interviewees, but it would be interesting to extend the scope of further research, for example by increasing the sample and extending the research also to social work clients. The study could also combine quantitative methods. Hopefully, this research data and customers' experience in the relationship between mental health and substance abuse can be used to further develop social and health services.
