Children with cochlear implants (CI) are known to have deficits in their prosody perception and emotion recognition skills. This is a risk for their social well-being. The purpose of this study is to examine what is known about prosody perception and emotion recognition skills of children with CIs compared to normally hearing children. Results show that there are deficits in at least some areas of the prosody perception and emotion recognition skills of children with CIs. More information is needed so that CIs could be technically improved and the interventions could be more efficient. Music is one of the most promising ways to enhance the prosody perception skills of children with CIs.
