The change happening after a traumatic event is referred to as posttraumatic growth. Meaning making model offers a conceptual framework for posttraumatic growth. According to the Meaning Making Model, recovering from a trauma inquires processing the trauma i.e. meaning making. Meaning making attempts are common for trauma survivors. They predict posttraumatic growth that is one type of construct meaning in the Meaning Making Model. Most growth experienced the ones who experienced very traumatic events, had enough support and adequate adaptive coping strategies. Meaning making attempts don’t always lead to meanings made, and prolonged meaning making attempts lead to worse adaptation. Regarding other variables, especially religiousness and age predict posttraumatic growth. Optimism is suggested to be a confounding variable.
