A transsexual person does not identify herself with her biological gender. By correcting ones gender a person can change her genderidentity both legally and physiologically. One of the area for gendercorrection is the voice. Frequency, resonance, intensity of voice are identified as genderdiscriminating. By correcting the voice thru voicetherapy or voicesurgery it can be corrected to correspond to the experinced gender. The goal in voice- and speechtherapy is to help the transsexual individual to accept oneself and to be accepted by others as a representant of the wished gender. This bachelorthesis wanted to investigate how the voice of a transsexual person correlates with quality of life. This thesis defines witch aspects of voice are crucial for quality of life for transsexual individuals. The method of this thesis was a descriptive review. The material was searched from the databases EBSCO, Pro quest and Pub Med and by manual search. As selection criterion studies had to be from the year 2006 or later, be written in swedish, english or finnish, be able to get in whole and peer reviewed. The studies should deal with transsexuals, be about quality of life or happiness and the angle of approach should be the voice. Seven studies were chosen. The results identified aspects of voice that was experienced as genderspecific and that influenced the experience of quality of life. These were: frecency of voice, the subjective judgement of voice was more important than others judgement of the transsexual persons voice,, the experience of a communication situation is dependent of who you talk to and when, and from a ICF-rehabilitation model point of view the psychologial and physiological aspects of voice have most impact in quality of life. The interaction between the different factors are more important for the experienced quality of life than the aspects on their own. In the voicerehabilitation work these results can be practiced to offer the most suitable care.
