Emotions experienced in daily life are an important part of the subjective well-being and experience of life. The everyday emotional experiences affect the individuals’ well-being, and the individuals’ well-being is reflected in the emotions he/she feels. Individual tendencies in emotional stability, cognitive styles and personality traits or constructs can be seen on the background of the everyday emotional life. Additionally, a number of external influences can affect the everyday emotional experiences, such as the environment, social situations and perceived quality of social life. The purpose of this study is to review the connections between personality, social context and everyday emotions. The main focus is in how personality affects the everyday subjective emotional experience, and in the neurobiology of personality. Personality will be re-viewed through the five factor model of personality and neurobiological models of personality. The everyday emotional experiences and the methodology of researching them will be defined according to Carroll Izard’s emotion schemas and Mihalyi Csikszentmihalyi’s Experience Sampling Method. Also the role of social context in the interaction of personality and everyday emotional experiences will be specified. The individual temperament, neural architecture and neurotransmitter systems form a base for development of personality and emotional dispositions. The environment and individual experiences influence the individual sensitivity for stress and negative emotions, and the executive abilities to cope with stress and deal with negative emotions. Environmental influences can be perceived even in the otherwise stable personality traits. Personality affects the quality and amount of different subjective emotional experiences, as do social support and active social life. Personality functions as a frame of reference, through which the everyday life events and social situations are interpreted. However, the subjective social well-being mediates the effect of personality to the everyday emotional experiences.
